A star from The Bachelor was called a miracle after her uterus ruptured during the traumatic birth of her second child. Bachelor Alum Opens Up About Traumatic Birth

Bachelor Nation fans first met Krystal Nielson when she was a contestant on Season 22 of The Bachelor. She later joined Season 5 of Bachelor In Paradise, where she fell in love with Chris Randone. They tied the knot during Season 6 of the spinoff but split up in 2020 after less than a year of marriage.

She went on to marry Miles Bowles in La Jolla, California, in August 2023, two years after they welcomed their first child, Andara, in 2021. They announced in May 2025 that they were expecting their second child. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a smooth birth at all. 

Like many Bachelor stars, Krystal Nielson Bowles shares updates about her life on social media. In a lengthy Instagram post, she detailed the harrowing birth of her second child. She revealed that she went to the hospital on November 14 for a scheduled induction due to an umbilical vein varix. She suffered the same condition during the birth of her daughter, but the delivery went sideways during the birth of her second child, Rowan.

Called A Miracle After Her Uterus Ruptured

Krystal Nielson Bowles revealed that she was in labor for over 30 hours without any progression. The doctors gave her an epidural so they could break the water and help the birth along. Unfortunately, the baby “got stuck” in her pelvic bone, making the delivery possible.

The doctors quickly discovered that Krystal Nielson Bowles’ uterus had ruptured during the traumatic labor. She said that it took ten minutes for the doctors to remove her son “while my body was pulled and maneuvered with such force that Miles had to brace my shoulders and hold me down as I cried out in pain.”

Her newborn son was taken away immediately because the doctors didn’t know how long he had been without oxygen. “The doctors later told us that if we hadn’t already been in the hospital and gotten surgery that fast, one or both of us would have not made it,” the Bachelor alum said.

Krystal Nielson Bowles was rushed into surgery to repair her uterus while her son was sent to the NICU. It would be days before she saw him for the first time. He was in therapeutic hypothermia for 72 hours to protect his brain from damage. She finally got to hold her newborn son four days after giving birth to him.

How Her Baby Is Doing Now

Mom and baby are home now after the scary ordeal. She revealed that the doctors were able to repair her uterus, but advised her not to have more children. “Since we’ve been planning on a 3rd child, this news was devastating to hear,” she said.

Her son’s traumatic birth story started a new Thanksgiving tradition. She and her husband will “lower ourselves into ice-cold water together. We will remember what 92.3 F felt like when the world hung in the balance,” she wrote on Instagram.
