Earlier in the year, it was announced that the Blue Bloods universe would be expanding, and with the original series concluding last December, fans are ecstatic about what the next chapter will hold. Boston Blue, the exciting new spinoff executive produced by Brandon Sonnier, Brandon Margolis, Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed and Donnie Wahlberg, will star both old faces that we got to know on Blue Bloods, as well as a handful of new faces we can’t wait to get familiar with. What is ‘Boston Blue’ about?

This brand-new installment and continuation of the Blue Bloods story takes Donnie Wahlberg’s beloved character of Danny Reagan out of New York and into Boston, where he takes on a position with the Boston police department. While there, he teams up with Lena Silvers, whose family is of importance in the world of Boston law enforcement.

Wahlberg reprises his role from the original series, and we can’t wait to see what this next chapter in Boston holds! “Once I started to let go of Blue Bloods, I started to see the opportunity that Boston Blue was. That it’s really a chance for us to carry on the tradition and the legacy of the show,” Wahlberg told Fox News Digital last month. “And I know how important it is to the viewers because I share what Blue Bloods meant. It meant a lot to me as well. So I know there’s a lot of excitement and enthusiasm about it.”

Sonequa Martin-Green as Lena Silvers

Sonequa Martin-Green will star opposite Wahlberg in this series as Lena Silvers, a detective from a prominent law enforcement family. You’ve likely already seen shine in shows like Star Trek: Discovery and The Walking Dead, but the actress is thrilled to dive into this next chapter.

“I know that it’s going to provide something that people need. I think it’s going to be optimism and hope and family, and I think it’s going to be good for people. I really do,” the actress told Closer Weekly in May. “Blue Bloods was so good, and we love the Reagans so much, and for good reason and hopefully we’ll love this new family that we get to meet through Danny’s eyes and through his perspective, and I hope that the legacy continues and I’m so grateful.”

Ernie Hudson will also join the cast, playing the part of Lena Silver’s grandfather, a Baptist pastor who also leads the prominent law enforcement family. Hudson’s most famous film and television role is that of Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters films.

The latest famous face to join this cast is Maggie Lawson, known for her work on Psych. In Boston Blue, she will bring to life the character of Sarah Silver, superintendent of the Boston PD.

When does ‘Boston Blue’ premiere?

Though the exact premiere date of this series has yet to be announced, we do know that it is coming this fall on CBS, airing Fridays at 10 p.m. Stay tuned for more details!
