BREAKING: Brittney Griner is Getting Divorced Again

Brittney Griner files for divorce from her wife Cherelle.

WNBA superstar Brittney Griner is set to be divorced for the second time in her life.

Griner’s first divorce was from fellow WNBA player Glory Johnson, following a brief 28-day marriage in 2015. They married on May 8, 2015, and Griner filed for an annulment or divorce shortly after, citing fraud and duress.

The split followed a turbulent period for the couple that included an arrest for a domestic dispute prior to the wedding. Unfortunately, things only got worse for Griner.

She also pays child support following her brief 2015 marriage. Johnson gave birth to twin daughters, Ava Simone and Solei Diem, in October 2015 via in vitro fertilization (IVF) using Johnson’s egg and donor sperm. Brittney Griner sought an annulment, claiming she was pressured into the marriage. However, an Arizona judge ruled she was legally obligated to provide support because the IVF process was mutually agreed upon during the marriage.

An Arizona superior court ordered Griner to pay $2,516.97 per month in child support to cover childcare expenses. The court concurrently denied Johnson’s request for an additional $20,000 in monthly spousal support.

Many sports fans became aware of Cherelle Griner during her tireless work to secure Brittney Griner’s release from a Russian prison. She served as her primary public advocate and directly lobbied top U.S. government officials to orchestrate a prisoner swap.

Cherelle utilized her background as a law school graduate to navigate the political landscape. She aggressively pushed for federal intervention. Cherelle met with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the Oval Office to personally demand high-level negotiations.

She also partnered with the State Department and the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs to ensure Brittney was officially designated as “wrongfully detained.”

Her public support provided political backing for the administration to trade notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout in exchange for Brittney’s freedom on December 8, 2022.
