The Indiana Fever have dropped the announcement fans were hoping they wouldn’t, revealing that Sophie Cunningham’s first season with them is over.
Cunningham injured her right knee after Bria Hartley fell on her leg while driving to the rim during Sunday’s game against the Connecticut Sun. It was immediately clear that she was hurt as she clutched her leg and screamed in pain.
Sophie’s mother and sister would call Hartley and the referees out after the incident, lashing out in separate social media posts.
Cunningham underwent an MRI on Monday, which picked up a torn MCL. The injury has ruled her out for the rest of the season, following averages of 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists a night, as she played as a part-time starter during Caitlin Clark’s lengthy absence.
“The Indiana Fever announced today that guard Sophie Cunningham will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season after suffering an injury during the team’s game at the Connecticut Sun on Sunday afternoon,” the team announced via their official website on Tuesday.
Sophie Cunningham’s Injury Comes At A Critical Juncture

Cunningham had a bold three-word message for her teammates after the injury, showing remarkable resolve after being helped off the court, but she will no longer be able to contribute.
This latest setback marks the third season-ending injury for the Fever’s backcourt in less than two weeks, with guards Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson also going down. Clark, meanwhile, is still sidelined.
The Fever have reacted to the injury by signing veteran guard Shey Peddy to a seven-day hardship deal while releasing Kyra Lambert.
There are also suggestions that Bria Hartley meant to hurt Sophie Cunningham based on a curious photo.
Cunningham is expected to make a full recovery and will remain an important presence in the team’s locker room. However, this development comes at a critical time for the Fever, who are looking to make a push for the playoffs with less than a month left in the regular season.
Brittney Griner Finally Breaks Her Silence Over Alleged Caitlin Clark Comments That The WNBA Refused To Investigate
Brittney Griner (Photo via Twitter)
WNBA star Brittney Griner was at the center of a new debate over what she allegedly said in a game against basketball phenom Caitlin Clark.
The Atlanta Dream center found herself at the center of social media controversy last month when some fans thought she disparaged Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark upon fouling out.
The game’s broadcast focused on an upset Griner saying something as she returned to the Dream bench after fouling out of the game. While there’s no audio of this moment, some who tried to read Griner’s lips thought she called Clark a “trash f–king white girl.”
However, there’s no proof of Griner saying those actual words since others thought she stated something else.
It took weeks for someone to finally get a quote from her, and she provided much of nothing.
Brittney Griner was asked about this moment before her team’s June 15 game against the Washington Mystics and said, “I remember fouling out, being mad. I remember fouling out on, I believe it was [Natasha] Howard driving to the basket. They said I put my hand in.”
This is the first time I’ve heard Brittney Griner speak! 🤨

WNBA Chooses Not To Investigate Brittney Griner

Moments before the conclusion of the Indiana Fever’s 81-76 victory over the Dream at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta weeks ago, cameras seemingly caught Atlanta Dream star center Brittney Griner labeling Caitlin Clark “trash” before calling her a “f***ing white girl” in frustration over a foul on Natasha Howard.
The clip of Griner speaking on the bench, lacking context, spread on social media and went viral.
Griner, who won a gold medal for Team USA at the Summer Olympics in Paris in 2024, essentially got aw@y with whatever came out of her mouth because the league basically ignored the controversy.
This incident is not the only time Griner vocalized her frustrations this season. Following another game, she stormed off mid-interview, yelling at the referees to “be f—ing better.
