On the October 14 episode of Dancing with the Stars, Dylan Efron chose to dedicate his dance to his five-year-old sister, Olivia, who joined him on the ballroom floor to share a special trio performance alongside her brother and pro partner Daniella Karagach.

Fans immediately started buzzing over the stark age gap, as many wondered about the dynamics of the close-knit Efron family.

Dylan, 33, is the little brother of A-list actor Zac Efron, 37. The pair are the sons of David Efron and Starla Baskett. Their parents met working at the same power plant in their hometown of Arroyo Grande, California.

 

They raised Zac and Dylan in a non-celebrity-focused household, maintaining a pretty private life before Zac rose to stardom following his role as Troy Bolton in Disney’s High School Musical trilogy. Despite their privacy, Zac has always been open about the love he has for his mom and dad in press interviews and on social media.

In 2018, he told Elle, “My parents love me in very different ways. But they checked every box. My dad always taught me to be driven. I was always the shortest kid at school. Always the worst kid on the team. I’d come home after practice and my dad would build a basketball hoop. Then we’d go out and shoot 100 free throws. Pretty soon every time I got fouled I would make my free throws.”

After 28 years of marriage, David and Starla filed for divorce in 2016. At the time, Starla cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, according to People.

Despite their differences, David and Starla come together for many occasions to support their children. Notably, the pair reunited when Zac received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 2023.

At the time, Zac said, “My mom and dad, they’re the reason I’m here today. They believed in me when I don’t know how they did. It must’ve been difficult to drive me back and forth to auditions when I was 15, three hours from the Arroyo Grande out here, just to have such a small shot.

“They believed in me, and they stuck with me, by my side, through all of it. And I think they sacrificed a lot to support me throughout the years. So to have them here and to both be here in person is…it makes me emotional, man. It’s very special. It means the world to me.”

David remarried his current wife, Jenny Efron, with whom he shares Olivia and Henry. Henry is younger than Olivia, but his birthday has not been confirmed by any member of his family.

Dylan and Zac are both extremely close with their young siblings, boasting about their accomplishments and milestones on social media. Dylan chose Olivia to be his guest for DWTS’ Dedication Night, a special night during each season where stars choose someone in their life to pay tribute to.

Olivia joined Dylan on the dance floor as they performed to the song Rewrite the Stars, sung by Zac Efron and Zendaya in their hit film, The Greatest Showman.

The performance blew the judges away, earning Dylan all nines for his peformance. This marks his highest scores yet, as well as the highest scores of the entire season so far.

The moving performance and outstanding scores make Dylan an unexpected frontrunner for season 34 of the dancing reality competition.
