Karoline Leavitt has stepped down from her position as White House press secretary.
On August 12, Fox News interrupted its scheduled broadcast as anchor Martha MacCallum, 62, announced that Karoline Leavitt, 28, had resigned from her position as White House press secretary. President Donald Trump made the announcement via Truth Social.
Leavitt had given birth to her second child, a daughter named Viviana, on May 1, 2026. Trump disclosed she will conclude her tenure at the month’s end to “spend more time with her beautiful young children and family.”
Along with her second child, Leavitt is also mother to a son named Nicholas and is married to Nicholas Riccio. This came as viewers wanted the former press secretary to return after Vice President JD Vance replaced her at a briefing.
MacCallum stated on air, “Right now, this is from President Trump. On Truth Social. ‘Our wonderful White House Press Secretary and one of my most trusted aides, Karoline Leavitt, will be departing her role at the end of the month, so that she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family.'”
The president added, “It is a decision I totally understand and respect. Karoline will be one of my top outside advisors and an influential voice in the Republican Party as we work to defy history and win the midterm election.

“Karoline has been a real leader in the White House,” MacCallum added from Trump’s post and went on, saying, “And has done a phenomenal job fighting for liberty, justice, and freedom since 2018, including our Historic re-election Campaign of 2024.
“Karoline has been one of the best White House Press Secretaries in the history of the Office. Thank you, Karoline, for a job well done!” the host closed.
MacCallum concluded her segment with a respectful acknowledgment, noting, “Karoline obviously had a second child. For the summer, she took a bit of time off to be with that baby. It sounds like the president is saying she will still quite involved as an advisor.
“And as we move towards the midterms. But what I’m picking up here, not in a day-to-day White House press briefing, which she has really become legendary in carrying out.

“When she was on leave, they brought in [Vice President] JD Vance and [Secretary of State] Marco Rubio, and [Secretary of the Treasury] Scott Bessent to replace her because she is very strong,” she concluded.
One day prior to the announcement, Leavitt posted on X, sharing a video of the president discussing the serious and credible assassination threat from Iran targeting him, reports the Irish Star.

Trump had allegedly instructed military and Secret Service officials to coordinate the sophisticated operation, although the president has maintained he’s never been worried about such risks.
The video showed Trump apparently boarding Air Force One as he left the NATO Summit in Turkey on July 8. However, the president was secretly transferred to a catering vehicle, which then took him to a different military aircraft while reporters boarded Air Force One, under the impression they would be accompanying Trump to his subsequent destination in England.
