19 years after his father, Carmelo Anthony, made his debut for the University of Syracuse, Kiyan is firmly following in his footsteps.
The NBA legend is celebrated by the university for bringing the program its only NCAA title during his freshman season in 2003.
“Definitely overwhelming”: Kiyan Anthony on following Carmelo Anthony’s footsteps at Syracuse
While Anthony was solid in his debut for his father’s alma mater, the freshman guard has a long way to go if he is to live up to his father’s legacy at Syracuse. The 19-year-old guard discussed the immenseness of the task he has taken up.
“It’s definitely overwhelming,” Anthony told The Daily Orange. “I’m not even gonna lie and sit here like it’s a bed of roses. It’s definitely a lot of pressure.”
Carmelo Anthony played 35 games for Syracuse, averaging 22.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Even if Anthony catches up to his father in college, he’ll be faced with another daunting task in the NBA.
Following a 17-year season in the league, Carmelo retired while being widely regarded as one of the best scorers in basketball. For now, Kiyan Anthony will be focused on returning to action when Syracuse faces the Delaware State Hornets on Saturday.
