The Voice is swiveling around for another season.

The Emmy-winning singing competition series is back for season 29, one full of format changes and surprises guests.

“You think you know The Voice? Think again,” returning coach Adam Levine said in a teaser video posted on Instagram in July 2025.

According to NBC, the “landmark season will be infused with fast-paced, competitive elements, delivering a fresh twist on the format that raises the stakes for coaches and artists alike.”

The auditions might be blind, but viewers don’t have to be as they go into the new season.

Here’s everything to know about The Voice season 29, including who the returning coaches are and how the format makeover is setting the stage for epic showdowns.

 

When does season 29 of The Voice start?

The Voice season 29 will debut on Feb. 23 with a two-hour premiere episode.

The first episode will be followed by two more the same week, plus two-hour episodes airing on Feb. 25 and Feb. 26, per the network.

 

Who are the coaches for The Voice season 29?

Levine, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend are returning for The Voice season 29. Notably, there will not be a fourth coach.

Since the reality competition show’s debut in 2011, the three singers have appeared on and off. Clarkson was most recently on season 23, while Levine and Legend sat in the red chairs during season 27.

Per NBC, they are “powerhouse coaches who form the only panel in the show’s history comprised entirely of Voice winners.”

 

What is the new format for The Voice season 29?

The Voice is refreshing its format for season 29, called The Voice: Battle of Champions.

For the new installment, there are three coaches instead of the usual four, and each coach will have 10 artists on their teams. In another twist, the competition will feature four rounds.

For the Blind Auditions, the coaches will go head-to-head in a Triple Turn Competition, where they will try to earn the most three-chair turns. The winner will gain “a special advantage in the next round,” according to NBC Insider.

During the Battles, the coach with the most three-chair turns will be awarded a Super Steal, a power that can be used once and overrides the other coaches’ attempts.

The Knockouts round will feature an “in-season all-star competition,” with the coaches recruiting two performers from their teams in previous seasons.

The show will conclude with a Top 9 semifinal, leading to a Top 4 finale, where for the first time, “a new voting block comprised of super fans and past Voice artists will be involved.”

Which performers are returning for The Voice season 29’s all-star competition?

The artists returning to The Voice for the in-season all-star competition, per TV Insider, are:

Team Kelly: Girl Named Tom (season 21) and Jake Hoot (season 17)
Team John: Maelyn Jarmon (season 16) and Renzo (season 27)
Team Adam: Javier Colon (season 1) and Jordan Smith (season 9)

According to Deadline, the coach with the most wins in the sing-offs will have a second finalist in the finale.

The special episode will also see the return of CeeLo Green, who was a coach on the first three seasons of The Voice, and is now back to pick the winner of every All-Star Showdown.
