Donnie Wahlberg Reveals If ‘Blue Bloods’ Stars May Show Up On ‘Boston Blue’
For the 2025-26 television season, CBS announced in February that it had picked up a Blue Bloods spinoff focusing on son Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), who is moving to Boston after accepting a position with the Boston Police Department.
According to the Boston Blue press release, Reagan is paired with Det. Lena Peters (not yet cast), who, like Danny, is also the eldest child in a “prominent law enforcement family.”
With the move to Boston, will Blue Bloods fans get to see any of the old gang on the spinoff? Wahlberg coyly hinted at some guest stars in an interview on the podcast Morning Magic with Sue and Kendra.
“It will be a Danny Reagan-based show, but the Reagans are only a phone call away, and Danny Reagan likes to use the phone, that’s all I’ll say,” teased Wahlberg.

He added, “I can’t tell a lot of stuff about it other than at this point, I’m very humbled to be producing the show with Jerry Bruckheimer and some incredible writers and producers known as the Brandons. It’s an honor to keep the Blue Bloods tradition alive, and I think that’s what I’ll be doing with the show.”
“The Brandons” that Wahlberg is referring to are Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, writers/producers who have worked together on many shows, including Alert: Missing Persons Unit, S.W.A.T., L.A.’s Finest and The Blacklist.
According to Deadline, the script for Boston Blue started as a series called Jamaica Plain, named after a neighborhood in Boston. That series was meant to follow a law enforcement family in Boston whose eldest daughter (Peters) is partnered with a transfer from Los Angeles. Since finding a way to continue the Blue Bloods universe was a “priority” at CBS, executives thought they could turn Jamaica Plain into a spinoff, especially given Wahlberg’s “deep ties” to Boston, where he grew up.
On the podcast, Wahlberg admitted he wasn’t 100 percent sold on the spinoff at first — but when the creators said it would be set in Boston (and film some of the show there), he was all in.

“CBS said, ‘Do you wanna do a follow-up to Blue Bloods, another show in the Blue Bloods universe?’ I was like, ‘Eh, maybe,’ and they like, ‘Do you wanna do it in Boston?’ and I was like, ‘Oh my god!’” said the actor with a laugh, adding that he “will love” getting to film in his hometown.
“You have to remember your roots from Boston ’cause no one in Boston will ever let you forget. I’m a proud Bostonian, I love the city. I love coming back every chance I get, and I will love filming there,” said Wahlberg.
He also took an affectionate poke at the city by saying that he can’t go anywhere without someone coming up to him to tell him how they are related.
“I go to a game or do whatever, and it’s like, ‘Donnie! I’m your aunt’s cousin’s niece’s nephew’s cousin! Remember me?’ You are one degree of separation from everybody in Boston, so you have to always have it right at the front of your heart, you know? At the forefront of your mind that you’re from Boston because nobody from Boston will let you forget it,” said Wahlberg.
There is no premiere date set yet for Boston Blue, but in the teaser Wahlberg posted to Instagram, it says “Coming CBS Fall.”
