In a plot twist no one saw coming, NCIS is bringing the past and the present together for an epic moment in TV history.
Fans of the long-running franchise know NCIS has a few spinoff series also airing on CBS. Perhaps the most notable of the ones currently on TV is NCIS: Origins, which follows the life of Leroy Jethro Gibbs (originally played by Mark Harmon on NCIS, now played by Austin Stowell) as he begins his career at Camp Pendleton in the 1990s. Given how both NCIS and NCIS: Origins are set over three decades apart, it would be quite a feat to see the shows come up with a crossover moment … right?
Well, CBS is looking to change all that, thanks to a surprise announcement revealed on September 4. In a video featuring Austin and Wilmer Valderrama (who plays Nick Torres on NCIS), the network revealed both shows will be involved in an epic crossover event for NCIS season 23 and NCIS: Origins season 2. Set to premiere on Veteran’s Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, both actors teased how their respective shows will be involved in one singular storyline.

“Hi, I’m Wilmer Valderrama from NCIS, coming to you from present day,” Wilmer stated in the clip.
“And I’m Austin Stowell from NCIS: Origins, coming to you from the ’90s,” Austin commented.
“Get ready for a crossover event like no other,” Wilmer added. “We’ll work a case that spans over decades.”

As soon as the news broke about NCIS and NCIS: Origins being involved in an epic crossover moment, fans couldn’t believe what they heard in the comments.
“I seriously can’t wait 🤩🤩,” one person wrote. “Awesome!!! I didn’t think you all would do it this year!!! Yay!!! I can’t wait!!” another exclaimed. “Omg I can’t wait for this!!!! It’s a good day for the NCIS world!! 🙌❤️,” a different follower added.
It’s important to note that while there aren’t many details about this upcoming crossover episode, this isn’t the only time the past will meet the present in the world of NCIS this fall.
In late August, TV Insider revealed actor Adam Campbell will reprise his role as Ducky Mallard (originally played by the late David McCallum on NCIS before his 2023 death) on an upcoming episode of NCIS: Origins. That installment, titled “The Edge,” will see Ducky make his way to Camp Pendleton to “shadow the time while they work on a case.” Elsewhere, Ducky and Gibbs will reconnect after first being introduced years earlier.
Well, this is all quite exciting, and we can’t wait to see how this all plays out when the shows return this fall!
