Cote de Pablo isn’t opposed to doing her own stunts when the job calls for it!

The NCIS: Tony & Ziva star, 45, revealed to PEOPLE at a New York City red carpet for the series on Sept. 3 that “so much” took place in terms of action sequences on set, some of which she even stepped in to handle herself.

The actress — who reprises the role of Ziva David in the new NCIS spinoff — shared that “a couple of accidents” took place while filming the series’ first episode in particular.

“There were a couple of accidents on the first episode we shot and they both had to stand down,” de Pablo recalled. “At one point, the director looked to me and she was like, ‘Can we finish it with you?’ And I was like, ‘Yes, let’s do it.’”

Fortunately, by that point, “most of the big stunts were obviously done.” The actress also doesn’t think those behind the show “would ever mess with” her getting injured, she added.

The series follows both Ziva and Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) raising daughter Tali (Isla Gie) together, picking up where de Pablo’s NCIS tenure left off, when her character went to Paris to reunite with Tony. In the spinoff, they are then forced to go on the run across Europe after his security company is attacked, as they potentially learn to trust each other again.

Elsewhere during her appearance in New York, de Pablo revealed to PEOPLE how she embraced motherhood with the season’s storyline and recalled during a panel what it was like saying goodbye to Weatherly when she initially departed NCIS in 2013 before returning for a brief run of episodes six years later.

“It was a really sad day,” de Pablo admitted during a panel moderated by TVLine’s Matt Mitovich. “I don’t think Michael [Weatherly] and I have really talked much about that day. It was really heartfelt.”

“I remember sort of saying these really beautiful things, like, ‘Thank you so much, and you were such a great partner, and you’ve been such a great friend and you’ve been such a great teacher.’ Little did I know that you would keep teaching me,” de Pablo said.

Amita Suman, Maximilian Osinski, Lara Rossi, Isla Gie, Nassima Benchicou, Terence Maynard, Julian Ovenden and James D’Arcy star alongside de Pablo and Weatherly in the spinoff, in which John McNamara serves as showrunner and executive produces alongside its two main stars.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva premiered on Sept. 4 with three episodes on Paramount+. New episodes will drop weekly on Thursdays until the season finale on Oct. 23.
