Kristin Cavallari trusted her gut, which likely saved her from a bigger problem.

The Laguna Beach alum, 38, revealed on her Let’s Be Honest podcast that a recent decision to revisit her plastic surgeon led to the discovery of a ruptured breast implant. What started as a vague feeling that something was off turned into a medical issue she hadn’t seen coming.

“I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do,” Cavallari said, recalling her visit to a Nashville surgeon. But once the doctor examined her, she realized her body had been quietly flagging a problem she hadn’t fully noticed. Her right breast looked different, though she chalked it up to aging or the effects of breastfeeding.

A Rupture, Scar Tissue, And A Needed Change

Cavallari’s surgeon expressed concern during the consultation, and together they agreed to proceed with surgery to investigate further. Once inside, the doctor found a ruptured implant and a significant amount of scar tissue built up around it. The tissue had formed as the body’s natural response to contain the rupture, a discovery Cavallari described as “crazy” given how unaware she had been of any rupture.

While some women might have opted to remove their implants entirely after such a scare, Cavallari made a different call. She chose to replace them, even slightly increasing the size from 300cc to 340cc. “I love being able to not wear a bra in a shirt, and I love how I feel when I take my shirt off in a relationship,” she said. “Doing my boobs is one of the best things I’ve ever done.”

Cavallari also pointed out that motherhood played a significant role in her original choice to undergo augmentation. Cavallari offered a word of advice: wait until after having kids. “Breastfeeding three kids is what ultimately made me decide to get a boob job,” she said, referring to her children with ex-husband Jay Cutler.

Despite the health scare, she emphasized feeling great about her decision and confident in her appearance. While she acknowledged that not everyone would relate to her choice, she clarified that it was right for her at this point in her life.
