The Cleaning Lady, Alert: Missing Persons Unit Both Cancelled at Fox
Fox has revealed the unfortunate fates of two more scripted series, cancelling both The Cleaning Lady and Alert: Missing Persons Unit, TVLine has learned.
Season to date, The Cleaning Lady is averaging just 1.67 million total viewers (with delayed playback), down 13% from last year. Out of the seven dramas that Fox has aired this TV season, it ranks… last in total audience. Alert: MPU Season 3, meanwhile, averaged 2.16 million total viewers (with delayed playback), down 12% from its sophomore run. Out of the seven dramas that Fox has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 6, besting only its Cleaning Lady lead-in.
Based on the Argentinian series La chica que limpia, The Cleaning Lady followed Thony De La Rosa (Élodie Yung), an undocumented immigrant and former surgeon who became a cleaner for a dangerous crime syndicate in order to get medical treatment for her ailing son. Despite her attempts to get out over the years, Thony only got more embedded in the criminal underworld in subsequent seasons; in Season 4, she served as the on-call doctor for the powerful Sin Cara cartel and, in the finale, stated her intentions to rise through the ranks and take over as Sin Cara’s eventual leader. (Read our full recap here.)

The Cleaning Lady‘s cast also included Martha Millan as Fiona De La Rosa; Santiago Cabrera as Jorge Sanchez; Kate del Castillo as Ramona Sanchez; Daniel Bonjour as Dr. DuPont; and Sean Lew, Faith Bryant and Khalen Roman Sanchez as De La Rosa kids Chris, Jaz and Luca.
Set in the Philadelphia PD’s Missing Persons Unit (MPU), Alert: Missing Persons Unit with each episode chronicled the life-or-death search for a missing person, originally headed by detectives Jason Grant and Nikki Batista (played by Scott Caan and Dania Ramirez). Once married, Jason and Nikki had a very personal connection to their cases, seeing as their own young son went missing and was never found.
But with the second episode of Season 3, Alert: MPU sent viewers’ jaws dropping to the forest floor as Jason and Mike (Ryan Broussard) discovered that Nikki had been murdered — with a single gunshot to the head.
Showrunner Carla Kettner described that twist as “a ‘big swing,’ creatively,” explaining that “the great thing about procedurals is that you kind of know what to expect every week. But — and this is a big but — the best procedurals shake things up and find ways to deepen our understanding of the characters. Grey’s Anatomy, Dexter, 24… they all killed off main cast members. It’s sad to say goodbye, but I think those kind of bold changes make you sit up and pay attention.”
Following Friday’s cancellations, only the anthology series Accused and animated comedy The Great North are still awaiting word on their futures at Fox. TVLine’s handy 2025 Broadcast Renewal Scorecard has been updated with Alert and The Cleaning Lady‘s axings. Drop a comment below with your thoughts on the news.
