“It’s Such a Beautiful Opportunity”: Ryan Guzman Addresses Those ‘9-1-1’ Buddie Rumors

With the eighth season winding down, 9-1-1 favorites, Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman, have been making their rounds with the press. Many are still asking the actors, who appear as Buck and Eddie, respectively, about the shocking death of beloved character Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), but they’ve also been hit with queries about the status of their on-screen relationship. During many of their solo interviews, both actors have voiced their opinions about the highly shipped romance that fans have been cheering on for quite some time now.

During a chat with Us Weekly, Guzman weighed in on where he hopes the creative team will take “Buddie” next. While Stark has previously stated that he’s okay with whatever direction the friends move in, Guzman said, “I feel like it’s best [the way] they are right now,” pushing for the pair to stay as friends. Explaining his stance, the actor added,

“Because it’s such a beautiful opportunity. I know a lot of people want to see something and maybe the enticing part is that and we keep it that [way]. But I love that we get to depict on network television, a heterosexual man and homosexual man, and it doesn’t matter to them. They’re brothers. They love each other and they’re there to support each other and I think that’s all, honestly, what we need more in our world.”

This week, the eighth season of 9-1-1 bows out. So, what’s on the horizon for Season 9? When it comes to his character’s storyline, Guzman thinks that Cupid’s arrow might strike over the next set of episodes. Although Eddie is living that bachelor life just fine, Guzman said,

“He’s ready for the next thing to happen. So whenever that does happen, yeah. I think it should happen next season or so.”

With the entire 118 mourning the loss of Bobby, no one has been in a particularly good place as of late, but, as Guzman put it, “You can’t just have the characters be all happy. That’s not gonna be a good show.” Still, he’s hopeful that the creative team will “figure something out with Eddie” in the romance department, teasing,

“But I think the next relationship should be something life-changing that it just throws him off for a loop. Maybe that. I don’t know if I wanna lose any more cast members.”
