Sophie Cunningham is back at rehab.

WNBA free agent Sophie Cunningham is still trying to find her way back to the court before the 2026 WNBA season. The Indiana Fever guard suffered a season-ending torn MCL in her right knee last season. Her injury occurred in mid-August 2025 during a game against the Connecticut Sun when she was involved in a collision.

She was ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season. Despite the injury, Cunningham has kept her fans up to date on her recovery. Last month, she showed a video of herself flexing her legs on a Peak Pilates Casita or Fit reformer machine.

This month, the Fever guard was back, going through her rehab process. Yet again, she had to spread her legs apart. She took to her Instagram story to show off her latest procedure. Cunningham was undergoing electroacupuncture or dry needling with electrical stimulation on their upper leg/thigh area. This technique is usually done to treat muscle pain and tension.

Last year, Cunningham was limited to 30 games after tearing her MCL. It came at a time when she was finally finding her footing on the team. She averaged 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds. The star guard also improved her efficiency from the floor. Cunningham shot career-highs of 46.9% from the field and 43.2% from three-point range.

Those numbers could’ve been the difference in the playoffs. After clinching, the Fever defeated the Atlanta Dream in the first round to win their first playoff series in a decade. They were one victory away from going to the Finals. Many assumed the team would run it back with the same cast, including Sophie Cunningham.

However, she still remains a free agent. She became an unrestricted free agent amid ongoing WNBA-player negotiations for a new agreement. Her one-year contract with Indiana has expired, and she is reportedly in talks with the Fever about a potential new deal.

While nothing has been finalized, it appears that Sophie Cunningham will be back on the Fever.
