Simply stunning… I really don’t even have the words to describe how much I love this.
Carrie Underwood just wrapped up her Las Vegas Reflection residency this past weekend, which she’s been doing since December of 2021 and from all of the clips I’ve seen, it looked like an amazing show. She got pretty much emotional during the very last show, thanking fans for their support and belting out “Something in the Water” under the (manufactured) rain one last time:
But the video I can’t get over is one a fan shared on TikTok of Carrie singing “How Great Thou Art,” which has become a staple of hers and she truly nails it every single time… that is one of the hardest songs to sing, and she first performed it live back on the ACM: Girls Night Out show in 2011 with Vince Gill, which is still one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen in my life. It was also included on her 2014 Greatest Hits: Decade No. 1 album, and more recently she recorded it for her gospel album My Savior, which of course, is unbelievably spectacular.
The original hymn was written in 1885 by Swedish preacher Carl Boberg and is one if, if not the, most recognizable church hymns of all time. Not surprisingly, tons of other artists have covered the song since it was written over 135 years ago, like Elvis, Alan Jackson, and even John Mayer back in 2019.
But in my very humble, honest opinion, no one can do it justice quite like Carrie. When she hits those last lines at the end and absolutely belts it… seriously, how is she even human? The fact that she sounds exactly the same live too is unbelievable, and I get full body chills every single time I hear her sing this:
There’s just something so special about it, and fans in the comments were just as floored as I am:
“Wow! What a difference between this and Coachella!”
“It’s amazing how lungs that big can fit in such a little woman. She’s amazing.”
“Nobody sings it like Carrie! Goosebumps.”
“Best moment of the show. Always gives me chills!”
“Every video from all 72 shows sounds exactly the same, talk about consistency.”
“She is special!! Nothing else to say!!”
“Gives me chills every time!”
“She rivals Elvis singing this song.”
“She’s AAAAH-MAZING.”
“I have goosebumps.”
“Chills every time I hear her sing this.”
“That dress and her voice are so beautiful.”
“One of the best concerts I have ever been to… she was amazing.”
“I love her rendition of this song!”
“I saw her in Vegas and she sang that… standing ovation. She was great.”
“Absolutely amazing.”
“This is how you go to church.”
“Praise Go. She uses the Gifts God gave her for HIS GLORY and it’s gorgeous.”
I almost don’t even have words for how special hearing her sing this hymn in particular is. It’s true talent to not only sing the way she does, but to touch so many people so deeply in doing so is a God-given talent, and she uses hers for good.
If you haven’t ever listened to her My Savior album, to this day, it is still my favorite proejct she’s ever done and I keep it on rotation weekly. Carrie has a voice for gospel music, and it’s unreal that she’s consistently able to belt it out the way she does. It’s pretty rare for an artist of her caliber to actually have the vocal range and ability that she does, and it’s awe-inspiring.
