9-1-1: Nashville’s Jessica Capshaw Introduces Her ‘Strategic, Ambitious’ Spinoff Character — Watch Interview

9-1-1: Nashville is “coming in hot” this fall, Jessica Capshaw tells TVLine.

We recently caught up with the star of the 9-1-1 spinoff at the Disney Upfront in New York, where she spilled the tea — a few drops, at least — about how her character factors into the ABC procedural.

In a nutshell, Capshaw plays Blythe (“I love that name, not many people are named Blythe,” she told us), the wife of firehouse captain Don Sharpe, played by NCIS: Los Angeles’ Chris O’Donnell. Blythe is in the horse racing business, which is a natural fit for Capshaw, who “grew up riding” and is still “around horses all the time.”

Despite Blythe being in a radically different profession, not to mention married to a man, Grey’s Anatomy fans will be pleased to know that she doesn’t sound entirely dissimilar to Dr. Arizona Robbins, the character Capshaw played for 10 seasons.

“She’s everything you want to be, and you want to talk to your daughters about being,” Capshaw told us of Blythe. “She’s this equal mix of strong and smart and strategic and ambitious. At the same time, she’s incredibly warm and holding everyone together and making sure that everyone’s feeling good. She’s the empath and the conductor at the same time. It’s going to be very fun to see how that plays out.”
