The Los Angeles Sparks going against male players (Photo via Twitter)
The Los Angeles Sparks were serious when they announced a public call for male practice players.
When the Sparks put out this challenge earlier this year, the response from social media struck a nerve with Cameron Brink. A number of the replies made Brink feel uncomfortable about bringing in male strangers to practice.
The Sparks posted a graphic featuring Brink, Rickea Jackson, Kelsey Plum, and Dearica Hemby with information about tryouts for male practice players.
Brink called out some of the more inappropriate and explicit replies.
“I guess my confession is I’m really icked out by the potential new practice players,” Brink said at the time.
This week, the team brought the male practice players together, and they competed against the stars on the Los Angeles Sparks.
A short video showed the team struggling to score, as a missed shot led to a rebound for the male team. They would also go down and miss a shot.

The Los Angeles Sparks want to be in the playoffs.
The team hasn’t had its entire squad healthy all year, but that changed at the end of July with Cameron Brink’s return.
Since her return, the team has won seven of thirteen games.
Eight teams make it to the WNBA playoffs, selected from the 13 total teams in the league based on their regular-season records and seeded into a bracket.
As of right now, the Sparks are just on the outside looking in with their 18-20 record, which is good for ninth place in the league.
There are six more games to play in the regular season for them, so every win from here on out is extremely crucial.

“My father gave everything for this.” Fighting back tears, Alysa Liu shared an emotional tribute to her father, Arthur Liu, in a newly released video that’s quickly spreading online. A single dad who built their family through surrogacy and raised five children, Arthur devoted his savings, time, and energy to Alysa’s skating dream from the time she was five. “He spared no money, no time,” she said. “He believed in me before anyone else did.” Now an Olympic champion, Alysa says the responsibility has shifted. “I’m the pillar of my family now. It’s my turn.” The clip ends with her father visibly emotional, delivering a quiet message of his own — one that viewers say is even more powerful than the medal itself.
When Alysa Liu stepped onto the Olympic podium, the world saw a champion crowned. Yet behind the glittering gold medal stood a…
