Alec Baldwin has shared a bizarre claim about what caused his car crash in the Hamptons on Monday morning.

The 30 Rock star, who was driving his wife Hilaria’s Range Rover with his brother Stephen as a passenger, slammed into a tree causing severe damage to the vehicle.

‘This morning I was in this car accident. Guy cut me off [in front of a] big garbage truck the size of a whale,’ Baldwin shared in an Instagram video.

‘To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree. I hit a big fat tree,’ he explained.

He said that he and his brother were both fine and had spent the weekend on Long Island.

Millions of Americans in New Jersey and New York were under a state of emergency Monday due to a powerful Nor’easter.

Major flooding occurred on Long Island as the region was battered by strong winds and heavy rainfall.

‘It crushed my car, my wife’s car. I feel bad about that,’ Baldwin said. ‘It’s all fine. I’m fine and my brother’s fine.’

He also thanked the East Hampton Police Department for quickly arriving on the scene to offer assistance.

East Hampton Town Police Department Chief Michael D. Sarlo told the Daily Mail in a statement: ‘At approximately 12:01pm on Monday, October 13th, the EHTPD responded to a motor vehicle accident on State Route 27, Pantigo Road near Cross Highway.

In photos obtained by TMZ, Baldwin and his younger brother were seen chatting with officers as they inspected the smashed vehicle.

Stephen Baldwin, who is the father of Hailey Bieber, was also seen taking photos of the crash scene.

Among the photos of the scene was an image of a garbage truck but its owner told the TMZ that the truck’s driver was not at fault in Baldwin’s crash.
