Following a video of Hilaria and Alec Baldwin at the Gotham Awards that went viral due to its awkward vibe, lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling revealed to The Express what the couple was discussing.

The video captured the couple’s arrival at the event amidst a flurry of photographers. Instead of posing alongside his wife, Alec, 67, stepped back to allow Hilaria, 41, to take solo photos while she dazzled in an elegant corset cocktail dress, complemented by a shawl draped over her shoulders. Alec looked dapper in a traditional black-and-white suit.

Hickling, who specializes in forensic and analytical lip reading, reported that Hilaria asked Alec, “What are you doing?” as he moved away from the cameras. He responded while gesturing to the photographers, “What? They think you look amazing,” He then steps back, stumbles slightly, and says, “No, no, no,” according to Hickling.

The 35th Annual Gotham Film Awards, hosted by the Gotham Film and Media Institute, took place on December 1, 2025, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

Numerous other celebrities were present at the ceremony, including Rihanna, Jacob Elordi, Kristen Stewart, and Jennifer Lawrence, among others.

The event, which marked the beginning of the much-anticipated award season, saw One Battle After Another clinch the highly sought-after Best Feature award.

Meanwhile, recently sentenced director Jafar Panahi won the Best Director award for his work on It Was Just an Accident. He was handed a one-year jail term in his native Iran on charges of political propaganda.

Despite Alec not receiving any nods, the 30 Rock star and his spouse relished the evening, celebrating the past year’s artistic achievements.

This public appearance comes just weeks after Hilaria faced controversy during her stint on Dancing with the Stars, where she encountered criticism over her previous ballroom dancing experience.

Many devoted fans of the show believed Hilaria had an unfair edge, leading to her elimination after only four weeks, alongside professional partner Gleb Savchenko.

After her exit, the mother of seven claimed during an Instagram Live session that she was “bullied off the show. “I did get bullied off the show,” Hilaria stated. “I did, that’s for sure. That is for sure.”

Despite the chilly reception to her participation in the popular ABC dance contest, fans responded warmly to Hilaria and Alec’s Gotham outing, commenting on social media snapshots from the event. One admirer remarked, “You guys look so beautiful together. Your dress reminds me of a Degas ballerina painting xoxox. Love it!”

“SO beautiful,” another penned, with a third adding, “Such a beautiful dress. You wear it well!”.
