A victim of needless violence.

The former football player who was killed in an altercation in a McDonald’s parking lot in Maryland has been identified as Tysean Berry.

Berry, a former high school star, was rushed to hospital in critical condition after getting shot. He eventually succumbed to his injuries.

With one man d3ad, another is facing murder charges following the Jessup incident.

According to Howard County police, officers responded to a report in the 8700 block of Washington Boulevard around 3:00 AM last Friday. They found a man with gunshot wounds on the scene, who was later identified as the aforementioned.

Berry was a standout football player at Hammond High School. He was only 25.

Suspect In Tysean Berry Murder Arrested And Charged

Police note that the former player had gotten into a fight with a group of people in the parking lot. His suspected killer, 22-year-old Christian Kinuthia, is believed to have taken the fatal shot.

He remained on the scene after the shooting. Police say no one else was injured.

Kinuthia has since been charged with second-degree murder and assault and is currently being held without bond.

“Tysean Berry was shot after police said he got into a fight early Friday morning with a group of people in the McDonald’s drive-thru lane on Washington Boulevard at Guilford. He d!ed at a hospital later that day, Howard County Police said,” the Baltimore Sun reported.

The county in question has experienced lower homicide rates in recent years. Eleven cases were recorded in 2024, representing an 83 percent increase from the previous year’s six. There were also only six in 2022.

Berry’s murder has taken this year’s total to six.
