United States President Donald Trᴜmp will attend a major sporting event this weekend, the first of its kind on American soil.
With the FIFA Club World Cup set to conclude with a final-day showdown between European sides Chelsea FC and Paris Saint-Germain, Trᴜmp is planning to take it all in, saying on Tuesday that, “I’ll be going to the game.”
Trᴜmp was invited to the clash by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, but ultimately decided to attend after FIFA opened a new office at Trᴜmp Tower in New York, per Front Office Sports.
The president also has a close relationship with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who accompanied him on a trip to the Middle East. Trᴜmp ’s domestic policy bill signed last week included $625 million to help with security costs for the World Cup next year, which the U.S. and Mexico will host.
The task force he established for the 2026 tournament was also put together with the Club World Cup in mind.

This year, Trᴜmp became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl, watching the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs in February, though he didn’t stick around for much of the second half.
He’s now set to be the first to attend a CWC final, with the current tournament debuting as a repackaged product this year, featuring the best soccer teams in the world.
Sunday’s final will be the most expensive ever, with $40 million to be awarded to the winner, while the loser will get $30 million. Both teams have already secured $100 million by making it to the final.
Both semis—Chelsea vs. Fluminense and PSG vs. Real Madrid—were held at the MetLife Stadium. The final will also be held there. The three games are part of a test run for next year’s World Cup final.
