After backlash, Diego Pavia shows a different side in New York
Diego Pavia has been a topic of discussion over the past few weeks, and much of it came with criticism. The Vanderbilt quarterback faced enough hate for his behavior around the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York. Still, he showed a different side of himself when the conversation shifted to respect and how he views women.
Pavia finished second in Heisman voting after a great season. He led Vanderbilt to 10 wins for the first time in school history, earning his spot at the ceremony. His confidence stood out all year. Some fans liked it, while others did not.
The criticism grew during his time in New York. Pavia kept his earbuds in while meeting Heisman officials. After losing the award to Fernando Mendoza, he posted critical comments about voters on Instagram. He was also seen at a club holding a sign that said “F*** Indiana.” Those moments upset many fans, including some who had supported him.
Pavia later responded to the hate he was getting. He apologized and took responsibility for his actions. He did not make excuses. Instead, he owned the mistakes and moved on.

Pavia showed a much calmer side during an ESPN interview with Katie Feeney before the ceremony. She asked him about his long-running “dream date” with pop star Tate McRae, a story that had already gained attention.
The idea started back in October. When Pavia promised Theo Von a date with his mom, but only if Von could set him up with McRae. Von tried and failed, and he admitted that. Pavia kept shooting his shot anyway.

He later reached out again while partying in Miami with Johnny Manziel in November. McRae never responded. The chase stayed playful and public.
When Feeney brought it up in New York, she asked where he would take McRae on a first date. Pavia suggested something fun like laser tag or a helicopter ride around New Year’s Eve. Feeney joked about a New Year’s kiss, but Pavia shut that idea down right away.
“Oh, I don’t know about a kiss,” Pavia said during the ESPN segment.
Pavia made his point clear like a true gentleman. He didn’t joke or push the matter and kept it straightforward.
Whatever you think about Diego Pavia, he stays real. He admitted his mistakes and showed exactly where he draws the line.
