Foster is set to perform in the annual Rose Parade. This event, first started in 1890, is traditionally held on New Year’s Day in Pasadena, California.
Just ahead of the event, Foster took to Instagram to share an emotional story ahead of his upcoming performance. As he wrote, “As I get ready for my Rose Parade performance tomorrow, there’s a deep sadness in my heart. Three years ago, we tragically lost two beautiful souls, Caroline Gill and Maggie Dunn.” In the post, Foster included a collage of his two friends.
As explained by WAFB 9, the two girls, described as cheerleaders and honors students, were killed on New Year’s Eve 2022. A police officer reportedly crashed into their vehicle during a high-speed pursuit of a home-invasion suspect. The two were tragically described as “simply [being] at the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Foster continued, “That pain and heartbreak allowed me to channel the most beautiful—and yet most terrible—thing I’ve ever created: the song ‘Tell That Angel I Love Her.’” As American Idol fans know, Foster performed this song multiple times on the show, including his Top 20 performance and during the season finale.
Many Fans Shared That Maggie & Caroline Were Now Foster’s ‘Guardian Angels’
During the share, Foster looked back on the power of music. He noted, “This song taught me just how much music can mean to a community, to a grieving family, and how deeply it could change me as well. I’m still so grateful that God allowed me to be a vessel for His words through that song, and it has been a true blessing to see how many grieving hearts have found comfort in it.”
It was at this point that Foster called on fans to offer their thoughts and prayers in honor of his fallen friends. He ended the post, writing, “Today, please say a prayer for their souls, and for the many loved ones who feel the pain of their absence every single day — and please say their names. Maggie and Caroline — we miss you, and we love you forever.”
Taking to the comments, fans have also shared their condolences in honor of the girls’ tragic passing. Many also shared words of encouragement for Foster ahead of the Rose Parade, noting that his friends would be proud of him. Some comments included:
“God Bless. Sending up prayers of comfort. Best of Luck w your experience tomorrow. Maggie and Caroline are your guardian angels.”
“I’m listening to this song today and thinking of all who knew and loved Maggie and Caroline. Maggie believed in you and she’s smiling down on you today and always!”
“Maggie knew you long before we did and boy was she right.”
“She believed in you as do I and your fans and of course your young lady there Brooklyn right by your side your family and the good Lord up above.”
